JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Sustaining the nation needs good regeneration, one of which is through character education for students. Indonesia is a large nation and country with a high number of population and diverse cultures, which the people should always be grateful for, said Chief Justice Anwar Usman in his opening speech at a webinar by SMP Tunas Bangsa (Bintan) at the commemoration of the 92nd Youth Pledge Day on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
At the event entitled "Interpreting the Youth Pledge with the Spirit of Mutual Cooperation for the Young Generation," he urged the students to revisit the progress of the younger generations throughout the nation’s history. The nation’s students and youth, since the pre-Independence era, amid the struggle for independence, to today’s era of democracy, have continued to show their contributions in various sectors. The youth has always seized opportunities and roles according to their era. Justice Anwar said that youth organizations such as Boedi Oetomo, which lived before and after the Independence, represent the youth that guard the government along with the people.
He said that the ’66 and ’98 Movements, all by the youth, initiated transitions in the nation’s history. “It is important for us to take a closer look at the large role of the youth in the history of the nation, which signifies their identity and character in fighting for and serving the nation. This record of history must be preserved and passed on to children to motivate them to continue fighting for the future,” he said before Bintan Resorts Foundation chairman Aditya Laksamana, Sekolah Tunas Bangsa principal Susilawati, and teachers of SMP and SMA Tunas Bangsa.
Before 216 participants, he advised them to commemorate the Youth Pledge Day every October 28 to foster love for the country. He said the Youth Pledge was a gathering of youths from various groups and diverse ethnicities at a congress, bound by a sense of togetherness and mutual cooperation for the nation’s unity.
"Differences became a strength for youth at the time. That young spirit and mutual cooperation are what then led us to the independence. So, the young generation today must be fully prepared for increasingly tough challenges ahead, including this COVID-19 pandemic. Dream on as high as the sky,” he urged the students.
