JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Chief Justice Anwar Usman attended the 92nd Youth Pledge Day Commemoration virtually on Wednesday noon, October 28, 2020 in Jakarta. Leaders of high state institutions, ministers of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet, governors, and youth from all over Indonesia attended the event.
President Joko Widodo said in his remarks, “The spirit of the Youth Pledge must continue living. In the globalization era, fierce competition between countries and individuals often occurs. It is not uncommon for it to end in efforts to defeat, destroy each other. It becomes negative energy that harms us all.”
He said that the Youth Pledge brought a uniting energy. Competition and differences do not have to make the Indonesian people forget common problems, interests, or goals. Everything can be resolved by unifying and working together.
"Uniting and working together is the key to achieving an advanced Indonesia. We must continue to make efforts to maintain unity. Being Indonesian is not enough to just be part of Indonesia’s territory. We must work together to care for the Indonesian quality, which must always be maintained with a spirit of solidarity and a sense of brotherhood. We must help each other in the spirit of solidarity," he said.
Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali said the culmination of 2020 Youth Pledge Day was celebrated on an unordinary condition where there was no flag ceremony or any crowd-attracting public events of previous years. “This year, Indonesia is undergoing a difficult test, with the COVID-19 pandemic that is greatly affecting all walks of life, including the youth in Indonesia. That is why a collective spirit is needed to revive Indonesia in the world," he said.
Zainudin said the “Unite and Rise” theme of this year’s Youth Pledge Day was reflective of the spirit of Indonesian youth 92 years ago, which is relevant to today’s conditions. The spirit to be free from colonialism from 92 years ago is needed today to face the COVID-19 pandemic.
The executive director of the public broadcasting institution (LPP) TVRI Iman Brotoseno said, “Along with the celebration of the Youth Pledge on October 28, 1928, the inauguration of the West Papua TVRI Station is a real mark in history that we made as a concrete way of fulfilling the mandate of the Constitution and statutory laws. We show the spirit of one homeland, one nation, and one language in our work.”
