JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—The technical assistance program on the 2020 election of governors, regents, and mayors for political parties was officially closed by Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto virtually on Thursday afternoon, October 22, 2020.
Justice Aswanto thanked both the online and offline participants of the program, which used to be held in person before the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that the routine program is usually organized by the Court through its Pancasila and Constitution Education Center (Pusdik) in collaboration with various organizations, not only for regional, legislative, and presidential elections. The duty to disseminate information on constitutional rights to the citizens not only lies with the Court also with political parties, which hold a key role in the democratic system.
“We cannot deny that political parties determine the development of national democracy. When political parties can implement how democracy among themselves, it can be taught to others and have an effect on the wider community, so that our country in the future can implement a better democracy,” he said. He also said that constitutional justices must work professionally and maintain communication with all stakeholders, including political parties, which have a role in promoting the people’s rights through legislative and regional elections.
He revealed that the Constitutional Court’s technical assistance program is part of the Court’s vision to be modern judiciary. “The modern judiciary gives justice seekers ample opportunities to find justice,” he stressed.
He expressed the hope that the petitions filed to the Court follow the procedural law, so that no petitions are rejected or dismissed due to not meeting formal requirements. Therefore, the technical assistance program disseminates information on the procedural law on pilkada dispute resolution. “The Court really upholds justice and what justice seekers are looking for, which is substantive justice," he said. He concluded his speech by hoping that the participants spread the information that they received from the program to other members of the community.
On the third day of the program, the Court’s IT staff members Ishak Purnama dan Jeklin Purba talked “The Use of ICT in the Resolution of Gubernatorial, Regency, and Mayoral Election Results Dispute” regarding the electronic case settlement information system. The Constitutional Court continues to make the Court more accessible for justice seekers by providing, among others, the Electronic Case Settlement Information System (SIMPEL), the Court’s website, the 2020 Pilkada portal, remote hearing and livestream of hearing, CLICK MK, Case Tracking and Case Retrieval, online Q&A, as well as the Court’s decisions, hearing schedule, and hearing transcripts. All this is meant to facilitate the public to monitor the pilkada cases.
The program took will take place for three days on Tuesday-Thursday, October 20-22, 2020 for various political parties. Some 398 participants attended the program—384 online and 14 in person at the Constitutional Court's Pancasila and Constitution Education Center in Cisarua, Bogor.
