JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Chief Justice Anwar Usman attending the virtual national ceremony to commemorate Pancasila Day (Sacred Pancasila) in 2020 that was held at the Pancasila Sakti Monument, Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta on Thursday morning, October 1, 2020.

The ceremony was led by President Joko Widodo, alongside Vice President Ma'ruf Amin. After the ceremony officer reported on the event, MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo read out the Pancasila, followed by the hearing of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution by DPD RI Chairman La Nyalla Mattalitti. This was followed by the reading and signing of the pledge of allegiance to Pancasila by House (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani, "With the Grace of God Almighty, we, who carry out this ceremony, are fully aware that since the proclamation of the independence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 1945, many have undermined the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia both from within the country and abroad."

This, she added, was made possible due to negligence and lack of vigilance of the Indonesian people towards attempts to overthrow Pancasila as the state ideology. With the spirit of togetherness based on the noble values of Pancasila, the nation could still strengthen the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. "So, before God Almighty in commemorating Sacred Pancasila Day, we are determined to continue to defend and practice the values of Pancasila as a source of strength to promote unity to fight for [and] uphold truth and justice for the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia," she said.

This year’s Pancasila Day ceremony differed from that of the previous years’ as it was held virtually amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this didn’t lessen the solemnity of the ceremony. Before the ceremony was concluded, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy led a prayer to wish for the nation.
