JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat was a keynote speaker at a virtual legal seminar and national publication on “Transformation of Legal Ideals for a Developed Indonesia” by the Law Faculty of Bangka Belitung University on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 through Zoom.

Starting his remarks, Justice Arief said that Indonesia is a rule of law with Pancasila values. "So if there is question on [Indonesia’s] constitutional system, we agree that Article 1 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution stipulates that the State of Indonesia is a rule of law," he said. The Preamble and Article 1 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution reflect this.

“The administration of the State of Indonesia is not only a rule of law, but also a legal democracy,” he added. There are non-democratic legal states and authoritarian legal states. Indonesia, however, is a constitutional legal democracy based on the One God.

Bangka Belitung University rector Ibrahim said when opening the seminar that the theme was interesting because legal ideas are a timeless topic. “The ideal of justice is everyone’s ideals,” he said.

Artinya hukum menjadi panglima, idealnya,”ujar Dwi.

Law Faculty dean of Bangka Belitung University Dwi Haryadi stressed that legal issue in Indonesia is highly dynamic and there is daily press coverage on it. The law is the root to many issues in society.
