JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Chief Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman followed a ceremony to commemorate Pancasila Day remotely from the Constitutional Court building on Monday (1/6/2020). The event was broadcasted live from the Pancasila Building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs using the Zoom application.

The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo who led the ceremony, said that the COVID-19 pandemic tested the determination, sacrifice, discipline, and compliance of the Indonesian people. He added that the outbreak also tested the people in calmness in taking quick and precise actions. "In the face of this ordeal, we are grateful that Pancasila remains the cornerstone to move us all," he said.

Pancasila, said Jokowi, moves the Indonesian people to come together to face the COVID-19 pandemic. "It also moves our compassion to share with others," he said.

In addition, Jokowi said that Pancasila also strengthens the nation’s brotherhood and mutual cooperation to ease the burden on the community and promote the struggle to overcome difficulties and challenges. The noble values of Pancasila, he added, must be expressed explicitly in life.

"Pancasila must continue to be values that lives and operates in our lives; values that operate in government policies and decisions; values that continue to live in the spirit of the Indonesian nation," said Jokowi.

In addition, Jokowi also urged all state administrators to side with vulnerable elements of the community. The head of state also asked the state administrators to serve the all the people without discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, religion, race, and groups.

The Pancasila ceremony was done online, starting with MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo reading out the Pancasila, followed by DPR Chairman Puan Maharani who read out the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution. The ceremony was broadcast live through media and Zoom application. Leaders of ministries/state agencies and regional administrations were obligated to join the ceremony on Zoom. (Utami/LA)
