PUTRAJAYA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Chief Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman and Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah visited Malaysia to fulfill the invitation by the Federal Court of Malaysia to attend the Opening Legal Year 2020 at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya, Malaysia on Friday (10/1/2020).
Chief Justice Anwar was welcomed by Chief Justice of Malaysia Tan Sri Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat, who thanked the Constitutional Court of Indonesia (MKRI) delegation for their attendance. She also appreciated the MKRI’s support for the Federal Court during its AACC (Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions) presidency in 2017-2019.
Chief Justice of Singapore Sundaresh Menon, Deputy Chief Supreme Justice of Indonesia on Non-Judicial Affairs Sunarto, and several foreign delegates were in attendance. The Opening Legal Year is an annual event by the Federal Court of Malaysia that marks the commencement of the legal year of all judiciary in Malaysia. Judges at the federal and state levels attended the event. The MKRI delegation attended to improve relations between the two institutions, which will be applied in the AACC, WCCJ (World Conference on Constitutional Justices), as well as in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting to be held in Jakarta in 2020.
After the event and a meeting with the Chief Justice of Malaysia, the MKRI delegation will sign an MoU with the International Islamic University of Malaysia/IIUM. (NL/LA).
