JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—The Constitutional Court (MK) said its farewell to I Dewa Gede Palguna Sensei (teacher) on Wednesday (8/1/2020) at the hall of the Constitutional Court. Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah and aikido students in the Registrar\'s Office and Secretariat General of the Constitutional Court attended the event.

As Justice Palguna’s term as constitutional justice ended, his black-belt training at the Aikido Reflow Dojo of the Constitutional Court also ended.

In his remarks, Palguna expressed his gratitude to fellow aikido students as well as senseis (teachers) such as Sensei Anto and Sensei Muri.

“Thank you, Sensei Anto and Sensei Jasman, for introducing aikido to me. Thank you Sensei Muri, for coming to the Constitutional Court dojo. [Thank you] Taketoshi and the Aikido Reflow family,” said Palguna, whose wife and children were also in attendance.

He hoped that the Constitutional Court dojo would continue and have more members. “New trainees, do not be afraid. Aikido Reflow has a lot of members,” said the former justice who admires aikido enthusiast and action actor Steven Seagal.

Palguna said he found something in aikido, which is about conquering oneself and not others. He actually encountered aikido a long time ago, during his first term as constitutional justice in 2007. However, his aikido training did not continue in the Constitutional Court until his second term, where he helped found the dojo.

Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah said that Sensei Palguna is a role model, not only in terms of physical but also mental prowess.

“Sensei Palguna not only taught us how to develop the academic environment in the Constitutional Court through works that explain his thoughts, but also through role model of how to be professional, dedicated guardian of the Constitution,” Guntur added.
