JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Forty-five students of the Student Organization of Constitutional Law Department of Salatiga State Islamic Institute (IAIN) visited the Constitutional Court to learn about the Constitutional Court as an institution and the dynamics of the Constitutional Court\'s task implementation as the judiciary.
Constitutional Court researcher Irfan Nur Rachman said that the Constitutional Court is inseparable from the judicial review. The constitution as the highest law can be guaranteed to review whether a legal product is constitutional or not.
Irfan also explained that all Indonesian citizens have the right to submit a judicial review petition if their constitutional rights and authorities are violated by the enactment of a law in accordance with their legal standing guaranteed in Article 51 Paragraph 1 of the Constitutional Court Law.
He exemplified a petition by Machica Mochtar on Article 43 Paragraph (1) of Law no. 1/1974 concerning Marriage, which regulates children born out of wedlock. The justices granted the petition that was filed on February 17, 2012 and declared that all children in Indonesia have a civil relationship with their biological fathers. (Utami/LA)
