JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—The Constitutional Court held a flag-hoisting ceremony to commemorate Pancasila Day (Sacred Pancasila) on Tuesday morning (1/10/2019) in Jakarta. Head of the Legal and Registrar Administration Bureau Wiryanto led the ceremony, with all staff in attendance.

The leader of the ceremony Wiryanto read out a speech entitled "Pancasila as the Basis for Strengthening the Nation\'s Character towards Progressive, Happy Indonesia." Pancasila is an ideology, the basis of the nation, and the unifying of the plural Indonesian nation. Pancasila unifies the complex diversity of the Indonesian people in terms of ethnicity, religion, regional language, island, customs, and skin color. Indonesians have one country, one nation, one unifying language within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), symbolized through the Garuda Pancasila holding on to Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity).

The Sacred Pancasila Day is closely related to the September 30, 1965 Movement. This tragedy was a movement aimed at overthrowing the government of President Sukarno and changing Indonesia from a state based on Pancasila to a communist state. Six high-ranking officers and one middle-ranking army officer fell victims to the incident. They were Lieutenant General Anumerta Ahmad Yani, Major General Raden Soeprapto, Major General Mas Tirtodarmo Haryono, Major General Siswondo Parman, Brigadier General Donald Isaac Panjaitan, Brigadier General Sutoyo Siswodiharjo, and First Lieutenant Andreas Andreas Tendean. The government then set October 1 as the Sacred Pancasila Day. (Nano Tresna Arfana/NRA)
