JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman is optimistic that the 2019 Legislative Election Results Dispute (PHPU) hearings will run smoothly and safely. Anwar confidently stated that the Constitutional Court is ready to handle the 2019 Legislative PHPU.
“The preparation by the Constitutional Court, in terms of facilities, infrastructure, and personnel, are [complete]. As I said yesterday, [we are] ready one hundred percent,” Justice Anwar said at the Constitutional Court lobby on Thursday afternoon (4/7/2019).
Justice Anwar also guaranteed the independence of the nine constitutional justices who will examine and try the legislative PHPU cases. “I can guarantee the independence of all constitutional justices. I can ensure that independence is a non-negotiable [condition],” he said.
The statement was made after Justice Anwar had monitored the preparation of the 2019 legislative PHPU hearings, which will be held on July 9 to August 9, 2019. Justice Anwar checked the preparations of all employees including the ad-hoc substitute registrars, Constitutional Court task force teams, and the security officers inside and outside the courtroom.
"After I went around and monitored around the Court, [I concluded that] the preparation was very thorough," Justice Anwar said.
He revealed that the number of law enforcement personnel would depend on the situation and conditions in the Court and its surroundings. "In terms of security during the hearings, it depends on the situation," he said. (Nano Tresna Arfana/NRA/MJK/YW)
