Palguna: Panel of Justices Will Be Independent and Impartial

JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Ahead of the preliminary hearing of the 2019 Presidential Election Results Dispute (PHPU), which will be held on June 14, Constitutional Court Justice I Dewa Gede Palguna checked the Court facilities at the Plenary Courtroom on Thursday (13/6/2019). He revealed that the check was to ensure that every all facilities in the courtroom work well and to maintain the situation during the hearing.

"We are checking the facilities for tomorrow’s [hearing], not only for the smooth running of the hearing but also for [maintaining] the situation. We managed everything as well as possible. Due to space limitation, we made arrangements. The rest has been prepared in advance, such as organizing technical guidance and the task force that will handle the 2019 PHPU case," Justice Palguna explained to the press.

Layered Verification

Justice Palguna asserted that layered verification had been carried out on the response and evidence submitted by the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) to the Constitutional Court. "No matter how much evidence is submitted, we will definitely check [it]. We have been doing it since 2004. It\'s just that the management is now getting better because everything is detected, when it is submitted, [the time], there is a written certificate and evidence," he explained in the presence of Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah and Registrar Muhidin.

In addition, Justice Palguna also explained that the hearing at the Constitutional Court can be accessed by the public through the channels provided by the Constitutional Court, including live streaming on the Constitutional Court\'s website and video conference prepared in 42 universities throughout Indonesia, as well as on registered TV stations. "So, everything is accessible. And we have implemented this [with] judicial review (PUU) [hearings]. So, [our] treatment is the same, including in this presidential PHPU," he said.

Before concluding the interview, Justice Palguna, responding to questions from the press, also stressed that the panel of constitutional justices would be independent and impartial in the decisions produced in each case petitioned.
