JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Head of Public Relations and Domestic Cooperation Department of the Constitutional Court (MK) Fajar Laksono Soeroso explained that Court was prepared to hold the 2019 presidential election (pilpres) results dispute hearing.

"We ensure that all Court facilities are ready—the sound system, IT, and security. Yesterday the Regional Police Chief (Kapolda) and the Military Commander (Pangdam) came to the Constitutional Court to ensure [and] review the security points at the Constitutional Court. The Regional Police Chief even confirmed that 12,000 personnel would secure the hearing at the Constitutional Court," Fajar said to the press on Thursday (13/6/2019) at the Constitutional Court.

"So, tomorrow, for the safety of the hearing, [the traffic] in the street in front of the Constitutional Court will be rerouted and closed. Do not interpret it as a limitation or prevention on the public from reaching the Constitutional Court, because the Constitutional Court only has 14 working days to resolve the presidential election dispute case," Fajar explained.

Fajar added that the preliminary examination (first) presidential election (pilpres) results dispute hearing will be held on Friday, June 14 starting at 09.00 WIB. "According to the Constitutional Court Regulations, the preliminary examination hearing is to examine the completeness and clarity of the Petitioner’s petition. This means that the Petitioner is given the opportunity to convey the subjects of the petition before the Respondent, Relevant Party, and other parties," Fajar explained.

Fajar revealed that the Presidential-Vice Presidential Candidate Pairs Jokowi Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno could be in attendance. "[They] do not have to be present, because [they] have appointed a legal team. But if [they] are present, alhamdulillah. It could be a good moment to bring together the two candidate [pairs] at the Constitutional Court. That is, before the [hearing], the two candidate [pairs] could meet and [assure] us," Fajar said. (Nano Tresna Arfana/LA/MJK/YW)
