Chief Justice Anwar Usman in his opening address on May 1, 2019 said that the 2019 Elections were the first concurrent presidential and legislative elections in Indonesia. He believed that the success of the elections did not only lie in the preparation, campaign, and voting, but also on the transparent, accountable, fair, peaceful, and dignified election result dispute resolution.

“However, the success of the election result dispute resolution in the Constitutional Court is not only in the hands of the Constitutional Court, but also rests with the cooperation and synergy among all state organs related to the elections such as the General Elections Commission (KPU), the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), the Election Organizer Ethics Council (DKPP), the Police, the Prosecution Office, the Supreme Court, and the academic community,” Justice Anwar said.

He said that professors and lecturers on various universities can enlighten and educate the public in responding to elections and election participants. He revealed that the Constitutional Court also welcomes every suggestion and input from the academic community for its preparation in dealing with the 2019 simultaneous election results dispute resolution.

On the occasion, the Constitutional Court also signed a memorandum of understanding with Jambi University, Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University, Narotama University Surabaya, and Khairun University Ternate. (Ilham/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
