JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto, along with Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah and Head of the PR and Protocol Bureau Heru Setiawan, welcoming senior officials of Surya Citra Media (SCM)—SCTV dan Indosiar within the media group Elang Mahkota Teknologi (Emtek Group) in the Delegation Room of the Constitutional Court, Monday afternoon (4/3/2019).

Justice Aswanto welcomed them, as television has a big role in broadcasting news including on the Constitutional Court. “We are hoping for support from the media because [it] is influential on our operation. Whatever we do, without broadcast by [you], the public will not know. Especially soon we will hold the 2019 Simultaneous Elections dispute hearings, including legislative election, although we hope that no election dispute petition will be filed to the Court. The election contestants should be prepared to lose or win. The winners should not boast, the losers should accept defeat,” said Justice Aswanto. He also conveyed the length of presidential election dispute resolution of 14 days, legislative election of 30 days, and regional election of 45 days.

Meanwhile, SCM Corporate Secretary Gilang Iskandar explained the reason for his visit to the Court, that is, to introduce programs developed by SCM under Emtek Group. Those programs are national TV channels (SCTV and Indosiar), cable TV (O Channel), pay TV for viewers at home and in car (Next Media), digital media, online media, Indonesian YouTube channel, and so on.

More importantly, Gilang added, SCM could explore the possibility of cooperation with the Constitutional Court for news. Even SCTV Chief Editor Mohamad Teguh expressed SCTV’s preparedness to broadcast legal and political news in a neutral manner, so that the channel can build good cooperation with the Court.

The statements of the SCM senior officials were responded positively by the Constitutional Court Secretary General Guntur Hamzah, among them on the Indonesian YouTube channel. "There is the potential for SCM cooperation with the Constitutional, for example, we have two-minute broadcasts. In addition, the Court holds the Anti-Corruption Festival, the Constitutional Debate, the Constitutional Awards, and so on. All of this is an opportunity for cooperation," Guntur said.
