Perindo Participates in Technical Assistance on 2019 Elections Dispute Resolution

CISARUA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—The Constitutional Court organized the Technical Assistance Program of the 2019 Elections Results Dispute Resolution for the United Indonesia Party (Perindo) on Monday–Wednesday (18–20/2/2019).

Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman was present at the opening of the event, along with Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah as well as Perindo Chairperson Hari Tanoesoedibjo and Perindo Secretary General Ahmad Rofiq. In his speech, Chief Justice Anwar said that he did not wish for any legislative (pileg) or presidential (pilpres) election dispute in the Constitutional Court. He also hoped that the 2019 Simultaneous Elections would run smoothly, which he said was indicative of the people’s voting according to their conscience. “[The people] are free to vote for anyone. There is no pressure. [Voting] honestly and the people will enjoy the democracy safely in choosing their regional heads,” he said.

He also asserted that the 2019 Simultaneous Elections is one of the most complicated in the nation’s history. “The 2019 Elections are the first elections that are simultaneous in Indonesia. It will be difficult because there will be five ballot boxes,” he affirmed.

Secretary General of the Constitutional Court M. Guntur Hamzah in his report said that the technical assistance program was based on the Court’s idea to optimize the constitutional role and duty of the Constitutional Court. He said that the Court could not work alone, and so the active participation and involvement of all stakeholders were needed.

Perindo Chairperson Hari Tanoesoedibjo in his opening speech thanked the Constitutional Court for offering the technical assistance program for Perindo. He hoped that it would help his party implement the elections results well.

The program took place for three days from February 18 to 20, 2019. As many as 117 participants from many regions were in attendance. It is the 21th activity out of 40 technical assistance programs that the Constitutional have and will offer in preparation for the 2019 Elections. (Utami/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
