JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—Ahead of the 2019 Simultaneous Elections,Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman and Home Affairs Ministry Tjahjo Kumolo signing an MoU on data of resident identity number (NIK) and electronic ID at the Chandra Room in the Financial Service Authority (OJK) Building in the Bank Indonesia Complex, Jakarta.
In his speech, Justice Anwar said that the Constitutional Court in the 2009 Election had ruled that citizens who had qualified to vote but had not been registered in the final voters list (DPT) of the General Election Commission (KPU) could use ID card and other identity card to vote. According to him, this shows how important population data ID cards are. With this cooperation, Justice Anwar said that the Constitutional Court would be able to obtain data of the parties involved in proceedings at the Constitutional Court expediently. “The Court in 2009 had passed a decision to relax the rigid constitutional system at that time,” he said.
Final Voters List Almost Complete
Tjahyo Kumolo in his speech said that cooperation in using NIK and e-ID aimed to improve the quality of public services. "Today there are almost 265,185,520 residents who already have complete NIK by name, by address, the data is detailed," said Tjahjo.
Out of the number, according to Tjahjo, 192,676,863 people required to have e-ID have been recorded and entered in the KPU DPT specifically. According to him, the recording of population data that has been carried out to date has reached 97.41%. Although there are difficulties because there are around two million who have multiple e-IDs as they are reluctant to report to the Population and Civil Registry Offices. Another problem is the difficulty in collecting data on Indonesian workers and students abroad. With the signing of the MoU, Tjahjo hoped it would be optimally utilized by the Constitutional Court.
The Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar, OJK Chairperson Wimboh Santoso, and the Center for Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (INTRAC) Chairperson Kiagus Ahmad Badaruddin also attended the event. (Ilham/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
