Thirty-two students of the PGRI University Yogyakarta visited the Constitutional Court on Tuesday (6/11/2018) to learn about the institution. Constitutional Court researcher Mahrus Ali, who welcomed the students, explained four authorities and one obligation of the Court. The authorities are the judicial review of laws against the 1945 Constitution, the resolution of interagency authority dispute, the resolution of legislative and presidential election result dispute, and the dissolution of political parties. One obligation granted to the Court is deciding on the House’s opinion of alleged violation committed by the president and/or vice president.
Ali also explained procedural law in the Court. First, a petition and body of evidence is submitted. Second, administrative requirements are to be completed in seven days. Then, the case is registered. After that, a hearing is scheduled after 14 workdays.
Ali also elaborated the application Click MK that serves to facilitate the public to find information on the Court, for example, on hearings, visit schedules, etc. He also spoke of the supervisory mechanism done by the ethical board, which oversees the constitutional justices. The Integrity Committee and gratification control unit also serve to oversee the staff internally.
After the discussion, the students visited the Constitution History Center (Puskon) to watch a film on the Constitution. (Arif Satriantoro/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
