The Constitutional Court (MK) held a ceremony to celebrate the 90th Youth Pledge Day, Monday (29/10/2018) at the yard of the Constitutional Court. All staff members attended the ceremony. It was led by Junior Registrar III Ida Ria Tambunan. Ida read out the speech of the Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi entitled “Develop Youth, Unite Indonesia.”

This theme, Ida added, was selected due to the importance of youth development to give birth to young generation who have faith and are devoted to God Almighty, noble, healthy, intelligent, creative, innovative, independent, democratic, responsible, competitive, and posses leadership, entrepreneurship, pioneering, and nationality based on the Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia in the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

The rapid development of information technology is like two blades. On the one hand, it guarantees speedy information that enables youth to increase their capacity in developing resources and competitiveness. On the other hand, this development has negative impacts, such as destructive information—hoax, hate speech, pornography, drugs, promiscuity, and radicalism. Young people, Ida said, must filter this with science and maturity.

Mental revolution launched by President Ir. Joko Widodo, she added, was very relevant in realizing developed youth. Developed youth are youth with character, capacity, and competitiveness.

"Therefore, we must be able to make mental revolution a trigger to accelerate the realization of developed youth. By creating developed youth, we can produce a great nation," she concluded. (Arif Satriantoro/LA)
