Constitutional Court Chief Justice Anwar Usman and Constitutional Justice Manahan M.P. Sitompul welcomed the Reformed Center for Religion and Society at the Conference Room of the Constitutional Court, Thursday morning (25/10/2018).
In his address, Justice Anwar expressed his gratitude that there are societal elements, including the Reformed Center for Religion and Society, that concerns with the nation. The concern, he said, is key to the ideal nation according to the ideals of the founding fathers.
“Without concern, there won’t be supervision; without supervision, there won’t be constructive criticism for people in power. Without criticism to people in power, there is great possibility of violation by those in power,” he said before around 40 attending participants.
The Chief Justice also explained the duty of judges, which is to serve the all people, without exception, to achieve justice. He revealed that the law enforcement and democracy in Indonesia is better than in the past. However, he stressed the need for evaluation and improvements to meet the people’s developments and needs.
At the occasion, Constitutional Justice Manahan M.P. Sitompul talked about The Constitutional Court’s Role in Guarding Pancasila as State Ideology. He mentioned the establishment of the Constitutional Court being the result of the third amendment of the 1945 Constitution in 2001. The Court, he said, is involved in the checks and balances system to prevent dominant power among the executive, legislative, and judiciary. (Lulu Anjarsari/Yuniar Widiastuti)
