In order to train those supporting the constitutional justices in improving the quality of Constitutional Court decisions, Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah endeavored to improve the Court’s international network by a collaboration with Leipzig University, Germany, alma mater of Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel.
At the meeting on Friday (12/10/2018) in Leipzig, Leipzig University representatives Law Faculty Directors Christophe Enders and Anna Mrozek talked about the design of the program that will take place for 6 weeks in 2019. Enders explained that the program had been designed to fulfill the needs of the Constitutional Court for theoretical knowledge as well as practical information through excursions to legal institutions in Germany. He also will request assistants of the German constitutional justices, who are legal experts as well state judges, to share knowledge and experience with participants of the program.
Guntur welcomed the program and expressed the Indonesian Constitutional Court’s openness to opportunities for collaboration with other institutions in the recharging program initiated by the Indonesian Constitutional Court since 2017. He hoped by extending the offer to other institutions, the program will help expand the participants’ horizons. “The Constitutional Court will be responsible for organizing the activities and the curriculum, while the budgets will be managed proportionate to the number of delegates sent by each institution,” he added.
To conclude the meeting, the Indonesian Constitutional Court delegation visited the Leipzig University library.
Comparative Study
The Indonesian Constitutional Court delegation also visited the Altes Museum, located in the center of Berlin within the complex of the national gallery of the history of human civilization, for a comparative study to improve the Constitution History Center (Puskon). The visit on Sunday (14/10/2018) provided the delegation with inputs to facilitate visitors to understand materials better, improve layout, use technology, and stimulate visitors’ imagination to command their enthusiasm during a visit.
After inauguration by President Joko Widodo in 2014, the Constitution History Center of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (Puskon MKRI) has received many visitors from various elements of the community and continues to make technological innovations to facilitate visitors. Puskon MKRI is one of the Court’s efforts to socialize Pancasila, the Constitution, and the Constitutional Court to the public. In order to plan a visit, one applies online through “contact MK” and the system will respond to it. The system will then schedule a visit free of charge. (HS/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
