Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman delivered a speech at the Open Senate Meeting of STKIP BIMA Graduation Ceremony of Class XXIX at the yard of STKIP Bima campus, Saturday (15/9). In his speech, he spoke about the importance of graduates devoting themselves to the people, nation, and state. “I would like to remind [you] that today’s graduation is your first step to dedicate [yourselves] to the interests of the people, nation, and state,” he said.

“It is important for me to remind you, alumni, that today’s global life cannot be separated from capitalism and liberalism that control the majority of countries in the world, including countries with Muslim population,” he stressed.

Chief Justice Anwar also said that alumni of Teacher Training College (STKIP) do not have to focus on being educators, but should possess soft skills in other sectors. He also mentioned many alumni had gone on to be government officials such as village secretary.

He said that the development of STKIP Bima should be directed to answer global challenges in the digital era of the ICT (information and communication technology) era. In the last year, local campuses were able to improve, such as on the accreditation of all study programs.

Justice Anwar added that the country today is in need of undergraduates with character, as there are already many undergraduates, but they cannot contribute to the advancement of the country. “Having a graduate or postgraduate degree is not just an academic process to receive a diploma, and is not just a means to a job or to improve one’s status for material gains,” he said.
