The 1945 Constitution affects the presidential leadership system. However, citizens are obligated to support all leadership. This was conveyed by Chief Justice Anwar Usman to participants of the Bima branch Islamic Students Association (HMI) National Training II, Friday (7/7/2018) in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara. He said that the amendment of the Constitution produced the current electoral system, although Vice President Jusuf Kalla had said that Indonesia’s elections were the most complicated in the world, that many proposed a rollback to the previous system.
At the event entitled “Actualizing Basic Values of Struggle (NDP) to Rise Up to Challenges of the Future,” Justice Anwar said that Pancasila and religious values did not conflict. He said that Pancasila tenets are the implementation of Quran, for example, the second principle Just and Civilized Humanity embodies surah Al Ma’un, in which humans are commanded to implement humanity values and behave accordingly to those who are weaker, especially orphans. In relation to the Constitution, he said, the state takes care of impoverished persons and abandoned children, which is proof that the Constitution also embodies the commands in Quran.
Justice Anwar said that Prophet Muhammad SAW modeled the Islamic leadership. After his death, companions of the Prophet argued about the subsequent leader. However, instead of nominating themselves, they proposed others. The Ansar proposed that the Muhajirun be leaders, and vice versa.
He also said that Pancasila contain solutions to social problems, but not all people practice it. He also reminded participants that, if they go into politics in the future, not to make empty promises to the people. (Ilham/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
