Chief Justice Anwar Usman delivered a presentation at the professional training for law graduates of Langlang Buana University of 2017-2018 at Wisma Langlang Buana on Saturday (30/6/2018).
On the occasion Justice Anwar explained the obligations of the Constitutional Court. he said that Article 24C paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution, the Court is authorized to adjudicate at the first and final level with final, binding decisions. Its first authority is reviewing laws against the 1945 Constitution.
The second authority is deciding on authority dispute among state institutions. The third is deciding on the dissolution of political parties, which he said only belongs to the Court. As long as the Constitutional Court has not decided that a party is dissolved, it still exists. The fourth authority is deciding on disputes over the results of presidential, legislative, and regional elections.
The Court is also obligated to decide on the House’s opinion on the impeachment of the president. He said that the Court’s authorities have covered all state and national orders. Its decisions affect not only the president, but all citizens.
At the end of his presentation, Justice Anwar hoped that university students who aspire to be constitutional justices learn more about the Constitutional Court, its authorities and obligation, and its decisions. (Utami/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
