As the Asian representative in the 13th Bureau Meeting of World Conference of Constitutional Justice (WCCJ), Indonesia affirmed its preparedness and intent to host the 6th WCCJ in 2023. This was expressed by Chief Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat in the meeting on Friday (17/3/2018) in Venice, Italy.

In the meeting held at the Scuola de Grande Building, Venice, Italy, Justice Arief shared MKRI’s experience in holding international conferences and symposiums. MKRI’s proposal to host the WCCJ in 2023 was also expressed in the 4th WCCJ in Vilnius, Lithuania, in September 2017.

In addition to emphasizing Indonesia’s readiness as host, Justice Arief also suggested the need for WCCJ to support the Guinea Buseau Constitutional Court as President of the Association of Portuguese-speaking constitutional courts who have financial constraints in attending WCCJ Bureau activities in 2018.

"In principle, as long as the WCCJ\'s finances are still sound, then on the basis of togetherness, the Bureau can decide to support the Guinea Buseau Constitutional Court," he said before the participants of the meeting. His proposal received a positive response and was agreed upon by all members of the Bureau.

At the meeting, for the first time on behalf of the Malaysian Supreme Court as President of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC), MKRI Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah as chairman of the AACC Permanent Secretariat for Planning and Coordination reported the development and planning of AACC activities throughout 2018 before all members of the WCCJ Bureau.

The 2018 WCCJ Bureau Meeting was attended by 15 participating countries consisting of nine Chairmen of the Association of Constitutional Courts, four individual member states of continental representatives, the Venice Commission, and the WCCJ Secretariat. (IH/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
