During the preparation of the 13th Bureau of Meeting of the World Conference of Constitutional Justice (WCCJ), Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of Indonesia (MKRI) M. Guntur Hamzah met with the Secretary General of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdiction of Africa (CCJA) Moussa Laraba on Saturday (17/3) in Venice, Italy.

This meeting was a follow-up to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) and CCJA at an international symposium held by MKRI in August 2017 in Solo, Central Java.

One of the agreements resulted from the meeting is a joint conference between AACC and CCJA in the form of the Asian-African Conference on constitutional jurisdiction. This conference will be held in 2021 in Jakarta and Bandung, West Java. Moussa Laraba welcomed MKRI’s initiative with full appreciation.

"We need to rebuild the spirit that was once built by the leaders of previous generations from Asia and Africa. Therefore, I welcome and will convey this plan to all CCJA member countries," said Larabba who once served as judge of the Algerian Constitutional Council.

Guntur Hamzah also accompanied the Chief Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat to attend the 13th Bureau Meeting of WCCJ. Indonesia is a member of the WCCJ Working Committee representing the Asian continent selected in the 4th WCCJ in Vilnius, Lithuania on September 2017. (SH/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
