Fifty-six students of SMP IT Insan Mulia, Pati, Central Java visited the Constitutional Court on Friday (12/1/2018). They were welcomed by Court researcher Oly Viana Agustin at the Constitution History Center (Puskon) of the Constitutional Court.

She said that within the state administration, the Constitutional Court is part of the judiciary. It consists of nine constitutional justices selected by the Supreme Court (MA), the President, and the House of Representatives (DPR).

She explained that the Constitutional Court of Indonesia has the authority to examine laws against the 1945 Constitution, decide on authority dispute among state institutions, decide on disputes over election results, and decide on the dissolution of political parties, and is obligated to decide on the House’s opinion of alleged violation committed by the president and/or vice president.

She revealed the idea to establish the Constitutional Court had existed early after independence and was initiated by Muhammad Yamin, but was rejected by Soepomo. At that time, Yamin proposed the Supreme Court to examine the law, but this did not happen because there were not many qualified law graduates at that time.

The students also inaugurated members of its student body at Puskon, which was an honor and a proud moment for them. (ARS/LA)
