Constitutional Court (MK) staff held a flag-hoisting ceremony to celebrate the 89th Youth Pledge on Monday (30/10/2017) at the yard of the Court. Junior Registrar Muhidin led the ceremony.
"We should be grateful for the contribution of the Indonesian youth who gave birth to the Youth Pledge. We should emulate their steps and courage in making history for the people," Muhidin said, reading out the 2017 Youth Pledge Day Memorial speech entitled "Indonesian Youth Bravely Unite" by the Minister of Youth and Sports.
Muhidin talked about the advancement of today’s day and age, where public transportation is available all across Indonesia, communication connects people all over the country in real time. However, he said, today people are quick to come to disagreement, easy to point fingers, to slander and spread hate. He said that the technology and transportation that was available today should make the people interact more and get close with each other.
Muhidin quoted President Soekarno, “Do not inherit the ashes of the Youth Pledge, but its fires. To inherit the ashes would only lead you to be satisfied with Indonesia that has one language, one nation, and one country. But this is not the final goal.”
Muhidin added that the people today must fight against any force that intends to divide the nation, to fight against ethnocentrism and ego. Unity of the nation should be a goal, beyond religious, ethnocentric, regional, and group unity. (Nano Tresna Arfana/LA/Yuniar Widiastuti)
