The Constitutional Court (MK) commemorated its 14th anniversary on Monday (14/8) morning at the front yard of the Constitutional Court Building. Constitutional Justices, officials, and all employees of the Constitutional Court were present at the ceremony. Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Arief Hidayat was speaker at the ceremony.

In his speech, Arief expressed his gratitude to the Constitutional Justices and all the employees who had supported the Court for many years and were able to face alternating challenges and obstacles. Until now, the Court has been able to stand and become a modern and reliable judiciary.

"The Constitutional Court is one of the institutions in the amendment of the 1945 Constitution. The Constitutional Court serves to strengthen certain cases in state administration in order to keep the state in accordance with the will of the people and the ideals of democracy," said Arief.

The Constitutional Court, continued Arief, also serves to maintain the implementation of a stable government or to speak against misinterpretation of the Constitution due to the state administrations’ past.

"With the five constitutional authorities granted by the Constitution, the Constitutional Court has performed its role in accordance with the rationale of its formation. For fourteen years, the state has assigned the Constitutional Court to guard, safeguard, and protect the state ideology, the supremacy of the Constitution, and keep the democratic law," said Arief.

On the occasion, four employees were awarded Satyalancana Karya Satya 10 Years. The Court also awarded three outstanding employees as well as three Management Building employees of the Constitutional Court in 2017.

After holding today’s event, Secretary General of the Constitutional Court M. Guntur Hamzah delivered a speech in the ceremony at the 2nd floor of the Constitutional Court Building. "This thanksgiving event is a tradition held annually as the Constitutional Court commemorates its birthday. The Constitutional Court to date, after 14 years since its establishment, has gone through various dynamics in its journey, and have experienced ups and downs amid many things," said Guntur.

Guntur stated that the Court has performed its functions and the cases it has received have been in accordance with its authority, both judicial reviews, disputes of state institutions, and disputes over regional and general election results. In terms of substance, the decisions of the Constitutional Court have given positive influences and direction to the development of law and democracy in Indonesia.

No less important, said Guntur, are various awards that have been achieved by the Court for various categories. The Constitutional Court achieved unqualified opinion (WTP) from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) for its financial statements since 2006. The Court also received the Integrity Award 2016 as a modern and trusted judiciary by the Integritas magazine. In addition, the Court received Bawaslu Award for its contribution on Governor, Regent, and Mayor elections of 2017.
