Chief Justice: Constitutional Court Has Role to Solve Nation Problems

Constitutional Court as son of reform movement plays role in overcoming nation problems, Chief Justice Arief Hidayat delivered in a meeting with Indonesian community in Frankfurt, on Thursday (1/12). The meeting was attended by Chief Representative of Frankfurt Indonesian Consulate General Wahyu Hersetiati and Indonesian students.

Arief delivered some recent nation problems, among others is a condition when freedom didn’t followed with responsibility.

“Recently our nation condition doesn’t reflect ideal condition envisioned by our founding fathers. In colonial era, Indonesian people had the same orientation; achieve independence. Therefore, there was no power struggle between our people at that time, not like our recent condition,” said Arief.

As guardian of the Constitution and guardian of ideology, the Constitutional Court must involve in overcoming, or at least minimizing, nation problems. Arief said that it is important to put the Constitution and the Pancasila as nation guidance. The establishment of the Pancasila and Constitution Center is a concrete way of Constitutional Court’s role in overcoming nation problems, he added.

“The Pancasila and Constitution Center re-educate the values and noble norms of Indonesian people which starting to be hard to find in nowadays formal education,” said Arief.

The meeting was a series of Chief Justice’s official trip to the Netherlands and Germany. The trip aimed to build relations between the Constitutional Court with international universities and law institutions for improving Court staff’s capacity building. (IH/lul/PAN)
