MKRI Strenghens Bilateral Cooperation with Algeria Constitutional Council

Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) Arief Hidayat and President of Algeria Constitutional Council Mourad Medelci agreed to realize memorandum of understanding of both institutions dated August 2015. Their agreement was confirmed in bilateral meeting of both institutions on Tuesday (19/4) in Algeria Constitutional Council Office.

Both constitutional court leaders discussed cooperation opportunity, particularly in research and exchanging information regarding their institutions’ verdicts.

In the meeting, Medelci expressed his appreciation to the MKRI’s performance in guarding Indonesian Constitution, serving as the AACC’s President, and establishing good relation with other constitutional courts and equivalent institutions.

“I hope that the Algeria Constitutional Council follows the MKRI’s way because Algerian people have similarities with Indonesian people,” said him.

Medelci also discussed the contribution of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Algeria through the 1955 Asian-African Conference. With the conference’s spirit, Arief hoped that good cooperation between the MKRI and the Algeria Constitutional Court could strengthen both countries’ relation.

Visit the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa

During his official visit in Algeria, Chief Justice Arief Hidayat took his time to visit the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa Permanent Secretariat. The Association’s Secretary General Mousa Laraba welcomed his visit. In the occasion, Arief requested the Association’s willingness to share information with the MKRI’S Secretary General who recently in assessing to establish AACC’s permanent secretariat in Jakarta.

Responding it, Laraba agreed with Arief’s request. He even recognized the MKRI’s performance in developing the AACC. “President of the CCJA hopes that both associations may explore cooperation,” said him.

President of the CCJA, through the Association’s Secretary General, invited Chief Justice Arief Hidayat to attend 2017 CCJA Congress in Cape Town, South Africa.
