Low trust will cause negative impact in nation development, therefore Indonesian people should have high trust among others, Chief Justice Arief Hidayat said in “Indonesian Civic Lecturers Association Empowerment” held by Ministry of Defense on Monday (14/12) afternoon, in Wiladatika Garden Cibubur, East Jakarta.

“Recently, Indonesian people suffer low trust in politics, law, economy, and even in statehood. Therefore, we should control such disorientation,” said Hidayat.

During independence era, Hidayat added, there were several groups who willing to establish Indonesia as Islamic state. In other side, some nationalist groups were willing to establish national state. President Soekarno then proposed the Pancasila to address all difference orientations in nation building.

Arief then told on constitutional system in several countries. For example, Turkey distinguished religion system with state system. It became secular state although the majority of Turkey is Muslims. “Pakistan is Islamic state because the majority of it is Muslims. Indonesia is not based on religion, however religion and belief system values become nation values,” said Hidayat.

“Instead of secular democracy, democracy in Indonesia is based on the values of Almighty God,” said Hidayat.

Hidayat also highlighted the Pancasila’s role for Indonesia. The Pancasila is nation ideology that accommodates entire people’s activities in statehood, including scientific activities. On that basis, Pancasila formulation as science and technology paradigm is a must.

According to Hidayat, science and technology development that apart from nation ideology will cause imbalance and even secularism which incompatible with Indonesia culture.

The most obvious threat from science and technology development, Hidayat added, is noble values detachment. Hidayat said the 1945 Constitution’s Preamble had established the Pancasila as science and technology development basis.

Hidayat further said that the Pancasila as science and technology development basis is covered on five aspects; uphold human dignity, improve human quality, support human communities nationally and globally, open for public, and support fair values. (Nano Tresna Arfana/IR/Prasetyo Adi N)
