The Constitutional Court held “Citizen’s Constitutional Rights Socialization for Nadlatul Ulama Women Boards and Members” on November 30-December 3, 2015 in the Pancasila and Constitution Center, Cisarua, Bogor. Around 150 members participated in the event.
“This socialization has been regularly conducted since 2009. We hope our cooperation with several public organizations can be sustained in the future. It is an honor for us, the Constitutional Court, to cooperate with Nahdlatul Ulama women members (muslimat, ed.),” said Court’s General Secretary M. Guntur Hamzah delivering opening speech.
“Today’s event is a form of Court’s duties in upholding the Constitution for entire Indonesia citizens. It aims to provide understanding on the Pancasila and Constitution values,” he added.
Meanwhile, head of NU Women Board Khofifah Indar Parawansa said today’s socialization is a good event to build partnership with the Constitutional Court. “Socialization material is very useful; even it has some enrichment compared with previous one. Previously, the material was focused on 4 Nation Pillars and the 1945 Constitution, while today’s material is enriched with law, democracy, and human rights protection,” said Parawansa.
Several keynote speakers delivered lecture in the socialization. Former Constitutional Justice Haryono delivered lecture entitled “The Pancasila and Constitutional Rights Protection”.
“The Pancasila is a crystallization of Indonesian people’s values. It is nation ideology that influenced by many aspects, among others are State’s functions and purposes,” said Harjono.
Meanwhile, former Chief Justice Hamdan Zoelva delivered lecture on ‘The Constitution and Constitutionalism’. He said Indonesia adopted constitutionalism system in its nationhood.
“After the Amendment of the 1945 Constitution, constitutionalism principles were consistently formulated. Every State policy shall refer to the Constitution. Citizens able to sue State policies if there is any policy violates constitutional rights, by filing judicial review to the Constitutional Court,” said Zoelva.
Constitutional law expert Andi Irmanputra Sidin delivered lecture entitled ‘Law State and Democracy’. “Nationhood purpose is the State protects us from uncertainty and oppression. It is clearly stated in the 1945 Constitution’s Preamble: the State protects entire people,” said Sidin.
The socialization then officially closed by the Pancasila and Constitution Center’s head Noor Sidharta. “On behalf of the Constitutional Court, we would like to express our thanks and highest appreciation to the participants,” said Sidharta
Sidharta hoped the participants could spread information to their colleagues and friends. “The socialization is very important. For those who have been participated in the socialization, we hope they could be agent of change, in order to spread information they get in the socialization to other people,” Sidharta said.
The participants then visit the Court’s Constitutional History Center (Pusat Sejarah Konstitusi –Puskon) on Thursday (3/12). As known, the Constitutional History Center is an educational center documenting constitution dynamic and the Constitutional Court via informative media and technology.
