Constitutional Justice Suhartoyo attends the Uzbekistan Constitutional Court’s invitation in International Conference entitled “The Role of the Constitutional Court in the implementation of the power separation principle and protection of human rights: experience of Uzbekistan and foreign countries” on Wednesday (21/10), in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The conference is held to commemorate the 20^th anniversary of the Uzbekistan Constitutional Court.

Several Chief Justices and Constitutional Justices of constitutional courts and equivalent institutions attend the conference; among others are Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Hungary, Belgium, Russia, Thailand, etc. In addition, a number of Uzbekistan senate members and Oliy Majlis legislative members, senior court elites, experts, and civic institutions representatives also attend the conference.

In his paper entitled “The Role of the Constitutional Court in Upholding the Principle of Separation of Powers and the Protection of Human Rights: The Indonesian Experience”, Suhartoyo emphasizes on the importance of international cooperation for mutual encouragement in each respective constitutional court. He assesses that experience sharing may be used as effective method in learning each countries’ differences. He also explains that the Pancasila plays important factor in Indonesia unity. Moreover, he says that the Pancasila is used as philosophical basis of Constitutional Justices in adjudicating constitutional cases.

Moreover, Chief Justice of the Uzbekistan Constitutional Court Bakhtiar Mirbabaev emphasizes on democratic ways that used by Uzbekistan since the beginning of its independence. Uzbekistan’s nation building is undertaken by strengthening civil society and maintaining people’s rights.  

The conference highlights the consistent and systematic implementation on constitutional principle of power separation. The implementation will provide balance on government branches. It becomes one of the important factors in dealing with nation’s challenges. Constitutional Justice represents the quality of democracy country and the highest form of constitutional control.

On the occasion, Suhartoyo also says happy anniversary to the Uzbekistan Constitutional Court and hopes the Uzbekistan Constitutional Court will achieve success in implementing future goals. (Bisaryadi/TIR/Prasetyo Adi N)
