Court’s General Secretary Muhammad Guntur Hamzah led Youth Pledge Day Flag Ceremony on Wednesday morning (28/10) in Constitutional Court front yard. All ranks of officers and staffs participated in the ceremony entitled ‘Mental Revolution for Youth Revival towards One Earth for Earth Action’ (‘Revolusi Mental untuk Kebangkitan Pemuda Menuju Aksi Satu Bumi untuk Bumi’).

“The theme is based on deep concern towards two matters. The first is, new phenomenon on social relations pattern that caused by modernization and technology advancement. The second is, natural resources management which inappropriate with sustainable development,” said Hamzah.

Hamzah said mental revolution movement coined by President Joko Widodo contained important values. Indonesia could be stand strong against modernization negative impacts, he added, by character building. “By mental revolution, we hope Indonesian young generation has self-reliant to take the best decision which suit their common sense,” said Hamzah.

Hamzah said technology advancement is like double-edged knife. Destructive information, such as pornography, drugs, hedonism, and radicalism, easily accessible, said him. “Such negative information shapes our young generation and makes them pragmatic and individualistic,” Hamzah asserted.

He further said social media had negative impacts on young generation, particularly on how frequent young generation commits crime. “Social media becomes favorite place for cross-country, cross-culture, and cross-religion young generation. They interact 24 hours a day. It is not easy for parents, teachers, educational institutions, and the State to control such matter,” added Hamzah.

Moreover, Hamzah asserted young generation to participate in haze prevention that recently occurred in Indonesia. “We inspire young generation to take part in haze prevention and environmental movement by responsible and sustainable natural resources management,” said Hamzah.
