Chief Justice Arief Hidayat welcomes Algeria Ambassador Aziria Abdelkadeer on Monday (27/7) at Delegation Room, the Constitutional Court Building. Both discussed on international symposium which will be held by The Constitutional Court of Republic of Indonesia on 2015 August in Jakarta.

“For celebrating Court anniversary, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia will held international symposium. We expect Algeria to be present to share their experiences and gather at the symposium,” said Arief accompanied by Court’s Secretary General Janedjri M. Gaffar.

They also discussed on Court authority regarding constitutional complaint, which became the main topic of symposium. Aziria asked about the authority of Constitutional Court of Republic of Indonesia on constitutional complaint. Arief explained that the authority of constitutional complaint wasn’t explicitly carried out by the Court. “Our main authority is conduct judicial review of Acts towards the 1945 Constitution. However in the implementation, several concrete cases which is a substance of constitutional complaint, filed to the Court,” explained him.

Arief also explained the purpose of symposium was for exchanging experiences with countries that had run constitutional complaint authority. “Thus, we invite several countries Constitutional Court and its equivalent institutions, to exchange experience on dealing with constitutional complaint as well as challenge faced by respective Constitutional Court in the future. We also willing to get input from various countries,” explained him.

Therefore, Aziria requested the Constitutional Court of Republic of Indonesia and Algeria Constitutional Court to form bilateral partnership which noted on memorandum of understanding. Arief welcomed the MoU and stated they would follow up the bilateral partnership established with Algeria Constitutional Court. (Lulu Anjarsari/Prasetyo Adi N)
