Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta debate team won 2015 Constitutional Debate National Competition (Kompetisi Debat Konstitusi Mahasiswa Antar Perguruan Tinggi se-Indonesia Tahun 2015 Tingkat Nasional). On the event held at the Pancasila and Constitution Center of the Constitutional Court (Pusat Pendidikan Pancasila dan Konstitusi Mahkamah Konstitusi –Pusdik MK), Cisarua Bogor (16/6), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta won over UIN Sunan Kalijaga in the final which the theme was ‘Re-establishment of Broad Guidelines of State Policy (Garis-Garis Besar Haluan Negara –GBHN)’
“This is the last debate constitution we participate on, we want happy ending then,” ungkap Raziv, spokeperson of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta debate team.
UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta debate team progress was very convincing from the beginning of competition. After passed qualification stage, they faced tough competitor, Universitas Diponegoro debate team. Progressing to semi-final stage as West Region Winner, they should face East Region Winner Universitas Surabaya. Their progress to final stage seemed inevitable.
“We are very grateful to be advanced to final stage of constitution debate, no instant way to achieve the progress. So many processes and lessons we learned. We never think about our toughest competitor, because the toughest competitor is ourselves,” a member of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah team, Novita added.
Another member of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah team Triesna said that his team had prepared for this event for two years. “At first, we didn’t know each other, no chemistry, however we always train to be solid team,” he explained.
Triesna added, this event was a learning way for university students for deepens their knowledge on constitution. “This event is very useful because university student’ knowledge on constitution, particularly UIN Syarif Hidayatullah students, is actually not quite deep. We could deepen and learn about constitution from this event,” said him.
Gaining Community Attention
Previously, Chief Justice Arief Hidayat in his opening speech said constitution debate was apparently gaining attention from general communities, not only academics communities. “The participants’ quality is also increasing; it means student understanding on constitution is better. It is very convincing that the future law people were better,” said him.
At the closing statement, Arief advised to university students to keep their good integrity. “I believe each students participated in this event are extraordinary students. Keep your integrity from now on, because you are nation future,” said him. (dedy/prasetyo adi n)
