Court’s Secretary General Janedjri M. Gaffar held press conference about the meeting of Secretary Generals which joined in the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions. At the session, Janedjri said Constitutional Court of Republic of Indonesia (Mahkamah Konstitusi Republik Indonesia –MKRI) as president of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions was initiatively host the meeting of Secretary Generals at the purpose of exchanging ideas, perspectives, and experiences. The meeting which held on May 25-26, 2015 discussed the next conference of Asian Chief Justices which held on August 2015.
The meeting of Secretary Generals will be held at Pulmann Hotel Jakarta and attended by 13 states’ representative who joined in the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions. The 13 states aforementioned are Indonesia as the host, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhtan, South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, dan Uzbekistan
“One of the states invited, Mongolia, cannot attend the meeting due to internal problem of its institution,” explained Janedri who accompanied by Head of Court’s Public Relation and Protocol Bureau Budi Achmad Djohari.
The meeting was expected to trigger mutual relation and cooperation which support the effort of AACC members for manifesting constitutional democracy state.
“In line with the AACC statute, prior to the Board of Members Meeting on August 2015 and the congress of AACC in 2016, preliminary meeting required to be held as series of preparations. The meeting is the first time and initiated by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia. The AACC members are rarely communicate, despite the association had already established. Moreover, the Chief Justices (of AACC members, red) are usually busy. Then, an idea coined by the Constitutional Court of Russia to conduct the meeting of Secretary Generals (of each AACC members, red),” Janedjri stated in front of the journalists from various media.
Janedjri also explained that the meeting will be consisted of five sessions. In the first session, each secretary generals will be delivered the authority of Constitutional Courts in their respective state and the role of secretary general in supporting the authority implementation. In the second session will be discussed on preparation of the Board of Members Meeting. Several agendas on the Board of Members Meeting, such as the request from Constitutional Division of the Kyrgyzstan Supreme Court for join the AACC and the plan of third AACC congress in 2016 will be discussed on the third session.
“We hope that the meeting is beneficial to improve staff support regarding the constitutional duty of Constitutional Justice. In the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia, it has already conducted, similar to the South Korea Constitutional Court which had been first implemented,” said Janedjri.
