Constitutional Court (MK) asked President Joko Widodo to reconsider two members of Constitutional Justice Selection Committee, namely Todung Mulya Lubis and Refly Harun due to their acquaintances to Applicants whose petitions are being heard by the Court.
MK Secretary-general Janedjri M.Gaffar said that Chief Justice Hamdan Zoleva has delivered the letter addressed to President. “The letter stresses independency and objectivity of the committee in complying their assignment to select Constitutional Justice candidates. Hope mister President may reconsider mentioned members’ position in the committee,” said Janedjri in his workspace, Friday (12/12). The request is intended to maintain the Court’s impartiality in further measurement.
The letter was addressed on Thursday (12/11) after Justices meeting was held on the same day. Reportedly, President has authorized a decree to form selection committee for Constitutional Justice on Monday (12/8). The committee was formed to find Hamdan Zoelva’s successor whose tenure will be over on January 2015.
The committee itself consists of 7 members, namely Saldi Isra as chief, Former Justice Maruarar Siahaan and Harjono, Refly Harunm Todung Mulya Lubis, Widodo Eka Tjahjana, and Satya Arinanto. The panel will name three candidates to later be proposed preceding final selection of one name chosen by the President. (Lulu Hanifah/kun)
