Students of 8 and 13 Elementary School Cawang, Jakarta paid a visit to Constitutional Court (MK), Monday (11/24). The visit was welcomed by MK researcher, Abdul Ghofar.

Ghofar told the students about goals, position, and authority of the Court. He said that 1945 Constitution is the supreme law of the land, containing obligation and rights between the state and its people. According to him, MK was established to protect people’s rights as conveyed in the Constitution. Referring to insurance theory, Constitution contains rights and obligations of state’s composition, when the charter being violated, it the rights of the people to plead.  

He explained, the authority and obligation of the Court as judicial institutions in Indonesia. The authorities of the Constitutional Court are deciding a judicial review on the laws against the Constitution 1945, deciding disputes amongst state agency, dissolution of political parties, and deciding disputes of the elections result, both presidential elections and the election of members of the DPR, DPD and DPRD.

To the students who just visited People’s Representative Council (DPR), Ghofar said that before the amendment of 1945 Constitution there was separation of power, the highest institution was MPR (People’s Consultative Assembly). But amendment reformed pretty much everything, ever since all state institutions are parallel, President, People’s Consultative Assembly, People’s Representative Council, Regional Legislative Council, Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, and Supreme Audit Agency.(Ilham/kun)
