Judicial Review on Article 12 and Article 31 paragraph 1 of Act 8/2012 about legislative election (UU Pileg), was held in Constitutional Court (MK), Tuesday (11/18). The agenda was to inspect Plaintiffs’ petition.
Three Plaintiffs, Song Sip, Sukarwanto, and Mega Chandra Sera explained that they have performed revision as advised by the Constitutional Justices in earlier hearing. the revision comprises legal standing and petitum.
The Central Java residences, delivered their lawsuit to Constitutional Court (MK) to interpret requirement needed for DPR, DPD, and DPRD membership. They want to limit legislatures’ service term. “Participate in just one legislative body and has never been serving as DPR and DPRD member within two terms in same post,” Song Sip said
Based on the explanation, Justice Maria Farida Indrati said the revision is sufficient. The petition will proceed to Justice Consultative Meeting in order to adjudicate the request.
Earlier, the trio questioned no limitation of term for legislatures. The Plaintiffs said, such boundless condition hinders the Plaintiffs to be chosen as legislatures, because they have to compete with those who have been established as legislatures. They also considered that such provision has prompted less fair requirement. (Ilham/kun)
