No one can contend Justices’ dignity. Court’s independency is required, yet the strive is hurdled and sometimes nocuous. Sometimes defying relatives and relations is only option available in order to keep their independency.
The statement was delivered by Chief Justice Hamdan Zoelva, when he attended South Sulawesi Concordance Society (KKSS) event at Bosowa Tower, Makassar, Friday (10/31). “My relatives may filed lawsuits. We were close but we must defy it, in the name of justice and law,” Hamdan said.
Hamdan, Advisor Council of KKSS, said that he was invited by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, who could not attend the event. “If pak Kalla asked, I cannot say no. but when it comes to the Court, I may refuse. The Court is free from any intervention,” Hamdan explained.
He also acknowledged Jusuf Kalla’s bustling agenda due to his new post. He praised the event and KKSS as silaturrahim-prolonging society.
In the event which was also attended by South Sulawesi Governor, H. Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Hamdan appreciated the local man Jusuf Kalla who has been chosen to pair President Joko Widodo in leading the Country. “This is fascinating. The first time in our history, a vice president being chosen for second term,” Hamdan praised sparking applause.
According to Hamdan, Jusuf Kalla was chosen due to his progressive and bold manner, something that has always been related to the character of Bugis. For him, Kalla’s character is needed by Indonesia at the moment as the archipelago is attempting to advance the reform. (Agung Sumarna/mh/kun)
