RI Constitutional Court (MKRI) Secretary-general, Janedjri M. Gaffar alongside with Thailand Constitutional Court Secretary-general, Chowanna Traimas conducted a meeting to talk about further partnership and preparing Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) at Thailand Constitutional Court building, Bangkok (10/3).
The counterpart meeting was held to deliberate background, goals and concept of MoC draft. “We urged the meeting as the deliberation was postponed three times,” Chowana opened the talk.
Nodded to the idea, Janedjri said that MKRI hoped the draft can be addressed to each Chief Justice. “I hope our interest meet so that the MoC draft can be signed by MKRI and Thailand Constitutional Court Chief Justice,” Janedjri said.
In the meeting, Janedjri said that in constitutional review, researchers play significant role to support the Constitutional Justice in complying their duty. Researchers do research and study toward registered cases deeply, generating output that will be utilized by the Justice in stacking up legal opinion.
“Aligned with MoC draft, we can hold many activities, research or seminar about constitution-related issue. Experience and knowledge sharing are our main concern, including comprehensive training or researcher exchange in order to stack up both institutions’ capacity building,” Janedjri said
MKRI Secretary-general and his counterpart agreed that the MoC will be signed by both Chief Justices by November 18.
Asia Constitutional Court Meeting
Janedjri expressed his gratitude to Thailand Constitutional Court for supporting MKRI to chair Asian Association of Constitutional Court (AACC) in the latest AACC congress in Turkey. Moreover, Janedjri disclosed his idea about the importance of sharing ideas in one body and AACC is the right place to incorporate each body’s interest.
According to Janedjri, MK’s performance is determined by the credibility of the Constitutional Justices, alongside with Constitutional Court Secretary-general substantive supports. Therefore, Janedjri suggested for Asian Secretary-general meeting to deliberate the process of the upcoming AACC meeting, scheduled to be held in Indonesia. The idea was acknowledged and Thailand is ready to give full support. (Yogi/mh/kun)
