Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) which is being mentioned repeatedly in judicial review on National Sports Committee (UU SKN) finally took related parties role. Rita Subowo, Head of KOI, delivered her testimonies on Tuesday (9/23), stating that according to Olympic Charter, KOI is the one whose competence comprises multilevel sport event organizer.

Rendy Kailimang as related parties’ attorney said that KOI is national sports organization that established in 1946 in Solo, Central Java. Indonesia Olympic Committee was appointed to be the only official Olympic committee in Indonesia, started from March 11, 1952. By the same year, Indonesia carved its name in the first ever Olympic it has partaken in Helsinki.       

As an organization, KOI has its budget acknowledged by international committee. By such occurrence, connection throughout the globe may retain and results in successful world peace.  

Rendy also explained that as a member of IOC, KOI oversees Olympic movement in Indonesia, including its participation in international level. “According to Olympic Charter, KOI is responsible to represent Indonesia in IOC’s event. KOI is responsible to take charge in holding international sports event conducted under IOC supervision,” Rendy said.

Firmly, Rendy also stated that KOI has competence to appoint which city to conduct Olympic event. In accordance to its competence, KOI assured that National Sports Week (PON), which being mulled by the Plaintiff, is part of Olympic movement. “By the argument, Indonesian Olympic Committee urges Constitutional Court to inspect and decline entire Plaintiff’s petition,” Rendy asked.

Meanwhile, Rita Subowo stressed that since 1952, KOI has been acknowledged as the official Olympic committee in Indonesia. “We always use KOI official symbol and mark in every letter of IOC’s directory,” Rita said.

Aparat from it, Rita explained that KOI can’t be positioned below any sports organization, including KONI. KOI is self-assured and must be overseen by the government itself, respectively. KOI wants to conjoin with KONI in one organization. Besides, Rita was once KONI chief as well.(Yusti Nurul Agustin/mh/kun)
