Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) M. Akil Mochtar received a visit from the Director Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Christian Hegemer on Wednesday (9/4) in his office. During the meeting, they discussed increasing cooperation that has been established for nearly 10 years. Hegemer expressed praise for the successful MOJ maintain its status as an independent and trusted institution in the eyes of the people of Indonesia.

On the occasion, Hegemer conveyed the idea of organizing a conference on freedom of religion as practiced in Myanmar. "I hope this conference can be conducted in Jakarta. Maybe HSF and Constitutional Court can work together hold the conference in Jakarta. There is no political agenda," he explained.

Responding to such cooperation offering, Akil welcomed and will be considered for follow-up. Akil said that when the constitution can be done not only through the trial but also through non trial. Whatever happens in the world will affect to Indonesia. Therefore, Constitutional Court welcomes any offer of a partnership to build a better relationship.

"As an institution carrying out of judicial power, the two previous periods have traveled with good. Now the challenges faced by MOJ will be heavier because public confidence in the MOJ should be improved. Therefore, in carrying out the policy of supporting system and requires a friend of court including HSF," he concluded.

Akil also said that when the constitution can be done not only through the trial, but also outside of the trial. Whatever happens in the world will have an impact for Indonesia. "We welcome all the offers of cooperation to build a better relationship," he said. (Lulu Anjarsari / mh)
