Indonesia currently needs a leader who has strong leadership in favor of the interests and the good of the people. It is time for Indonesia to open access to the state system as possible for future leaders who emerged from below and not from above the waterfall.

It was stated by Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Moh. Mahfud MD when appearing as a speaker at the Association of Teachers Reflections on Constitutional Law in East Java, with the theme "Towards a National Leadership Succession and Moral Integrity" in the city of Malang, Monday (3/12) ago. A leader who comes from below, said Mahfud, will always prioritize the interests of the nation and the state, and to the exclusion of the interests of pragmatic moment that only benefit a handful of people.

"In contrast, leaders who jumped from the top, is a figure who has the capital and close to the axis of power, so it can be ascertained only self-interest and group, so it will ignore the interests of the wider community," said former Secretary of Defense under President Gus Dur.

Mahfud added that the poor results of the recruitment of the head of the region have led to Indonesia led by weak leaders. Leaders who are not able to take accurate decisions at the right time. Uncertainty of this decision because he was held hostage by political dealings are made along with those who just want to take advantage of the leader who is not a strong character.

In addition, the recruitment system leaders who are causing unhealthy falsify regional heads. Based on the data gathered, as many as 267 criminal cases involved regional heads and of that number, 173 regional head entangled in corruption cases. "It’s a sad fact considering that Indonesia has just implemented a democratic system that includes direct involvement of the people in determining future leaders," said Mahfud.

On this occasion, do not forget Mahfud advised constitutional law teachers to take an active part in finding a constitutional way to problems that exist and put in the state system so any suggestions and input does not stop at the level of discourse alone. (Agung Sumarna / mh)
