Universities should produce intellectuals, not just a print scholar, because many college graduates are not an asset to the state, but rather a burden. This was conveyed by Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Moh. Mahfud MD, the scientific oration at the 56th Anniversary of Hasanuddin University of Makassar, South Sulawesi, Monday, September 10, 2012.
According to Mahfud, today many college graduates are not an asset to the country but rather a burden to the state. It arises because the system work better appreciate diplomas than someone's capabilities, resulting in growing some colleges that just a mere formality. Even when symptoms occur, the crime of corruption is dominated by college graduates.
Further information on the former Minister of Defence under President Abdurrahman Wahid, the diploma has become a commodity utilized officials or civil servants to obtain certain positions. Today many scientists builders, people who have a lot of knowledge but knowledge products can be ordered in accordance with the wishes of the order. This condition is certainly not in accordance with the constitution aimed at educating the nation, where a person's brain is not only intelligent, but also virtuous.
"Teaching and education are two different things," said Mahfud. According to him, teaching is only educating the brain, but not the intellectual life of the nation. This raises a variety of issues, the emergence of social fury, no political ethics, and legal policies decided in ways that proved fraudulent, and economic growth is only enjoyed by a small group of citizens. In fact, the law was developed by way of deception deceptive; law is no longer for justice but to seek victory.
It is said by him, the former Attorney General (late) Baharuddin Lopa never revealed the results of research on the breakdown of law in Indonesia, a lot of lawyers who do not make the law as a tool for peace, but use it as a means to create conflict, making people always look for the case. There are even lawyers who can manage the police and prosecutors to use the clauses used in the claims, all rely on the power of money and political power
"This situation also occurred among officials," said Mahfud. According to the man who once served as Vice Rector III of University of Islam Indonesia Yogyakarta, many argue that officials always use clauses, so the problem is not the substance of the dispute, but only the substance of the articles are debated.
Be reminded also, there are six first mandate agreed reforms, which we all require the amendment of the Constitution, the abolition of dual forces, upholding the rule of law and combating corruption, press freedom, autonomy, and democracy, just one that has not been done, the enforcement law and combating corruption.
According to the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, the college graduate cannot just print alone, but must be able to produce scholars. The Constitution in Article 31 of the Constitution of the 1945 Constitution has been formulated, the function of education is to print to Indonesian human beliefs, fear Allah. "Therefore, there are some values which must be held philosophical college, first to integrate science and faith, and to develop the quality of rationality but not stuck in rationalism. Education must also be in favor of humanity, even in its delivery methods, education should be value-free or neutral," he remembers. (Ilham/ mh/Yazid.tr)
