In the final round of the Constitutional Debate Competition Between Universities in Indonesia Regional Level IV with the theme of "the Fifth Amendment of the 1945 Constitution", University of Indonesia as well as the counter-amendment that host this event out as the winner defeating the University of Paramadina as the stronghold of the pro-amendment which came out as runner up.
Final constitutional debate competition was held on Tuesday (8/5) in the Auditorium of the UI Law School after a preliminary round very tight and tense followed by 13 colleges in the area of Jakarta, West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan. Team of UI and the University of Paramadina qualify as a finalist for a regional debate competition IV of this constitution.
Earlier, in the semifinal titled "Deleting Labor Outsourcing", defeating the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta UI, and the University of Tanjung Pura Paramadina beat the University of West Kalimantan.
With this result, the UI and the University of finalists and semifinalists are Paramadina Trisakti University and the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta, they will represent the region IV of the Constitutional Debate in the National Level Competition to be held in late June the Constitutional Court later.
The Court held this event in collaboration with the UI for the regional IV followed by 13 colleges in the area of Jakarta, West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, Sunday-Tuesday (6-8/5). The opening ceremony was attended by Secretary-General MK Janedjri M Gaffar, and officially opened by the Faculty of Law University of Indonesia, Topo Santoso.
Janedjri said, the Court still standing to this day not only because of the nine pillars standing tall in front of the Court, but because the main crown of the resulting verdicts to the Court is still trusted by the community in upholding law and justice based on the constitution. "Until now, the Court became the main gate in the resolution of legal issues faced by society," he explained.
1945 Constitution gave the Court the authority to guard the constitution. By becoming the guardian of the constitution, and thus the Court interprets the constitution, so that the Court acts as the final interpreter of the Constitution (the final interpreter of the constitution). Janedjri states, the authority possessed by the Court at this time, the doctrine of parliamentary supremacy has been replaced by the doctrine of constitutional supremacy. The Constitution is the supreme law of the country. "When the Court interprets the constitution would not be released from the values of Pancasila," said Janedjri.
At the end of the opening speeches, the Secretary-General MK hope this competition can be a crater, to generate candidates for the nation’s future leaders. "These activities are expected to give birth to future leaders who can give birth to new ideas that can break the law freeze current law, by enriching the meaning of the constitutional text which is faced with a factual situation," he said.
After the final exercise of debating competition which was won by UI, it was followed by a closing ceremony was officially performed by the UI Vice Chancellor for Research Development and Industrial Cooperation, Sunardji. This activity is very useful and very proud of the ability of the students participating in the constitutional debate competition that each is able to provide arguments on the issue or theme of the nation’s problems, "he said.
General Secretary MK Janedjri M. Gaffar in the closing event also convey a sense of pride to the students participating in the competition. According to him, winning and losing is not the goal, but more important is how to provide understanding and hone the skills of the students in thinking, arguing, and create solutions to current problems of the nation based on Pancasila and the Constitution.
