The 2012 Debate Competition on Constitution Officially Held

In the framework of increasing understanding and awareness of Pancasila and the 1945 constitution and to socialize its changes, the Constitutional Court again held the Constitutional Debate Competition for students throughout Indonesia in 2012. Routine annual competition held by this Court, followed by 112 colleges from all over Indonesia is divided into 6 regional. This time, the Court took the Law Faculty of the University of Hasanuddin to organize activities of the Constitutional Debate Competition Regional I. The opening event was held on Sunday (22/4) in the Hall video conference of FH UNHAS.

The event was opened by Rector Prof. Hasanuddin University. Dr. dr. K. A. Paturusi, and attended by Secretary General of the Constitutional Court Janedjri M. Gaffar. This constitutional debate competition activity carried out during three days from June 22 till May 24, 2011, followed by 16 universities in Eastern Indonesia.

In his speech, Janedjri revealed that the activities of the Constitutional Debate Competition Regional Competition Debate I was the first Regional Level held from 6 (six) regional planned this year.

Constitutional Debate competition this year has sought broader in scope than a year ago. "Along with the increased interest in college to participate," he said.

This activity was motivated by the thought of importance of understanding the growing of awareness of Pancasila and contitution for every citizen. "1945 Constitution is the basic foundation of the implementation of this activity, namely to achieve the national goal to realize a just and prosperous society based on Pancasila and the Constitution," he said.

Therefore, according to Janedjri, it improved understanding of the more necessary in the 1945 reform era. Because, the 1945 Constitution has undergone fundamental change and as the wave of democratization, this nation has been experiencing dynamic and rapid development both in the legal, political, economic, social and cultural rights."Constitution should be the basis in solving the problems of the nation, only then the 1945 constitution could be living (living constitution) in the life of the nation," he said.

Through this debate is expected of students not only understand the substance of the 1945 Constitution, but also able to use it as a basic framework of analysis and argument in addressing the problems facing the nation and state."Hopefully, the students can explore the potential that exists, so as to give birth to intelligent thinking to answer all questions," he said.

While in his speech, the Rector UNHAS Paturusi Idrus said, this activity is a positive step made by the Constitutional Court in nurturing future generations of the nation’s academics.
