Gaffar, along with women activists from the Puan Amal Hayati Foundation.
"The four pillars of democracy were the legislative, executive, judiciary and the press and NGOs, three of whom are experiencing a crisis. They were decaying. The three were legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Therefore, it takes the fourth pillar (the press, NGOs, and society, ed.) to save the nation and this country, "said Mahfud at the event which took place at Aryaduta Hotel, Jakarta.
Mahfud told the three pillars of democracy had seriously ill with the disease ravaged the malignant corruption. For this reason, continued Mahfud, the four pillars that are still healthy should be united and keep fighting. "The struggle will require long periods of time. It must be patient. If not patient, then this country could be dismissed. This struggle may not see results immediately," he said.

Mahfud also said that the need for balance in running the constitutional and religious life. "Nobody cannot lived in Indonesia to avoid such a double life; constitutional life and religious life.
